We’ve all experienced times where we’re at a fork in the road and we just don’t know which direction to go.
You feel stuck, unclear, and a little clueless about what to do.
I understand where you’re at because I’ve felt the same way countless times.
You don’t have to feel stuck anymore.
There are three methods that will help you hear from God during times of uncertainty.

1. Prayer
Prayer just means you’re talking to God. How amazing, that we as sinful humans, are able to communicate with our Creator. It’s a true honor.
God wants us to come to Him with everything whether it’s your worries, requests, or thanks. In the book of Romans, the Apostle Paul writes,
“Be constant in prayer,” (Romans 12:12 ESV).
I recommend keeping a prayer journal if writing’s your thing. It’s nice to flip through old journals and see how God’s answered prayers.
If you’re having trouble knowing what to pray about, this prayer journal helps guide you. It’s beautifully designed and includes weekly devotionals that allow you to meditate upon Scripture. You also have the option of having the journal in either paperback or spiral-bound. This journal is ideal for those who want guided prayer, otherwise, I would just go with a plain old journal (I have – many times!).
2. Fasting
Fasting is when you abstain from something for an allotted period of time. Generally, people fast from food but you can fast from anything. Also, you don’t have to fast from food entirely. You can select a food group you want to exclude such as meat, sweets, or carbs.
I think fasting is most neglected in the Christian community, but it is something even Jesus did. In the book of Matthew, after His baptism, it’s recorded that Jesus goes into the wilderness and fasts all while being tempted by the devil.
You might be wondering… What’s the point of fasting though? How will that help me gain clarity?
Well, fasting can actually help us become more receptive to His guidance. Check out this passage for a Biblical example.
“Then all the people of Israel, the whole army, went up and came to Bethel and wept. They sat there before the Lord and fasted that day until evening, and offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord. And the people of Israel inquired of the Lord, saying, “Shall we go out once more to battle against our brothers, the people of Benjamin, or shall we cease? And the Lord said, “Go up, for tomorrow I will give them into your hand,” (Judges 20:26–28 ESV).
As you can see here, the Israelites fasted and then asked the Lord what they should do. Likewise, we should follow this example.
To learn more about fasting, I highly recommend this book. He covers the topic of fasting thoroughly. Personally, I love John Piper and his ministry. He’s helped me grow spiritually and dig deeper into the Scriptures.
3. Reading the Scriptures
Reading Scripture on a consistent basis is important. Doing this has guided me tremendously in my life. It’s crazy how you learn something new from a passage you’ve read several times before. I’m always learning new things.
The Bible relates to my life too. Sometimes, I’ll be going through a circumstance in my life and my time spent reading a passage of the Bible for that day will relate EXACTLY with what I’m going through. God is speaking to me through His word. 🙂
In Hebrews, it reads,
“For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart,” (Hebrews 4:12 ESV).
This was the first Bible I bought to begin studying the Scriptures as a new believer. I absolutely love it and recommend it to anyone who’s wanting to start reading the Bible. There is amazing commentary throughout that helps guide you through passages that might not make sense at first. This Study Bible will help you gain a better understanding of Scripture.
